I may have mentioned in passing over the last few weeks that I'm going to a little place called barbados for a fortnight (eeee!).. :D
Therefore, I don't know how this blog will be updated in that time. It would be cool if it was and there's a computer in the house we'll be staying in, but to be honest I'm not sure whether I'll be in the mood to sit on the computer on my holiday. If I don't see you until I get back, goodbye!!!

tagged- Summer Holidays

the passenger:
me! MilkNoSugar C:

the getaway:
barbados, i'm going with my mum to visit her cousin (my second cousin?). actually, i'm going in two weeks :D

the carry on:
i am having some big, serious love for monsoon accessorize at the moment. it's a nice change from all those different shades of beige they call 'neutrals', and this bag looks nicely big and squishy-

summer staple:
i've always loved panama hats- so easily cool and classic, and i love the boyish twist they give to a floaty summer dress

beauty bliss:
bourjois has just brought out this weird but amazing lippy- it's completely matte and really soft. i tried it on in Boots and was like 'whaaat?!'. i'd have it in the really cute cherry red and team it with zero make-up for ultimate impact :)

color code:
bright, tropical colours like coral, yellow, turquoise and peach. i'm very tempted to go for topshop's super bright 'flash' nail polish for my toesies, provided it's as bright as it looks on the computer screen of course!

page turner:
Ugh, this is a real problem for me at the moment, since I'm absolutely terrible at choosing books. I'm such a big reader, but I hardly ever get new ones because I don't even know where to start! I'm looking for a really nice fairytale this summer, but since all the adult books are too grown up for that sort of nonsense, I think I'll stick to the children's section ;P

(this is my favourie book in the whole world, only it's meant for 12 year olds :P)

shaken or stirred:
Although I'm not usually an alcohol drinker, I'll be sampling Barbados' finest in mimosas and pina coladas, trust me :D

the soundtrack:
i'm absolutely loving fyfe dangerfield at the moment- Faster Than the Setting Sun would be perfect for driving to, She Needs Me would be excellent for walking round the shops and boulevards to, and She's Always a Woman is just, well, perfect.

Now, I thought I'd just share with you my very favourite food in the world, since I felt like it and I just ate one :) Mangoes are pretty amazing in my book, and if I could eat nothing but mangoes for the rest of my life i'd be pretty ok with that :D I'm going to Barbados this year with the mother, and my second cousin (who we're staying with) says she's got some growing in her back garden- amazing! this unbearable wait to get through my exams and the promise of a tropical island have got me a little obsessed with tropical, caribbean stuff... :)

I have two of these dresses in a lovely, swishy satin-y fabric with different prints on them (also, because i'm such a shorty they go just past knee-length). They're so easy to yank on with a truckload of bangles and pendants, and when the weather's this nice I just can't be bothered :)

Sparkly, colourful ethnic things. I got quite a few things like this from camden on thursday- i love that place :D

31/05/10

Since I'm very, veery lazy with anything that doesn't say GCSE on it at the mo, this blog's probably just going to degenerate into me posting photos and random bits I find on the web; maybe just for now, maybe permanently.
who knows, it'll probably be an improvement from my shoddy writing skills :P

See ya later alligators :P

06.05.10

Oosh, really had a lot happening over the last week. First of all, my school's GCSE art exhibition on wednesday-

How cute, eh? basically, we put up two years worth of art work, there's the open evening/exhibition where parents and the mayoress or something can look round and say 'how lovely' and 'well, you can see they put a lot of work into it...' (which means 'god that's terrible, better say something good about it..'), then the art stays up for weeks and weeks and weeks until we get to take it all home :)
Also, I've been diagnosed with a chronic longing for summer- I've got to take two smarties a day and wait until the exams finish :P
Until then, I've been stuffing my gob with fruit and salads and other summery food and wearing shorts whenever the thermometer goes past 10 degrees :P my most recent escapade was making my own yoghurt- surprisingly easy, and MUCH nicer than the stuff you get in stores- it's not quite as sour (although I left mine a bit too long and it sort of started becoming cheese...)
This dish did look really nice with the peaches sitting just on top of the yoghurt and sprinkled in icing sugar, but I started eating before I thought of taking a picture :P

If you want to make your own (and I highly reccomend you do- it's great fun!)-

Yoghurt
heat a litre of whole milk on the hob until little bubbles appear around the surface. Pour into a large bowl to cool until you can hold your pinky finger in it for 20 seconds (45 degrees celsius on a thermometer).
Put a few teaspoons of yoghurt starter formula or natural yoghurt with active bacteria in it in a small bowl. Add some of the heated milk and stir in until completely blended. Add the small bowl mixture to the large bowl a bit at a time, making sure to blend well each time.
Wrap the large bowl in a heavy towel and leave somewhere warm (like near a heater or in an airing cupboard) overnight until set. Finally, cover and leave in the fridge for 8 hours :)

So, how are you lot preparing for summer?

Summer Lust

As we come into march, and weeks of rain are broken up by rare, beautiful days of sunshine, I find it helps you to ignore the shitty weather by imagining and preparing for the few months where life picks up, barbecues are dusted off and people just feel generally happier and better about themselves- summer. This is the time of year that I generally associate with people making lists of things they want to do, buy and read as soon as it gets sunny, so who am I to break tradition?!

Number 1;
Topshop's mesh-front grey sweatshirt, worn backwards with a pretty bra would be HOT. It has to be in capitals to emphasize just how HOT it will be.
Number 2;
Ever since I saw this on Cupcakes and Cashmere, I have been (only slightly!) obsessed with it- the satin would feel lovely and swishy when you walk, and I love the fact that it's an obnoxiously bright colour.
Three;
Just because nerd glasses are one of the coolest and quickest ways to accessorise- I love the nuts off'a them.
And finally, four;
A really good, high pair of wedges. Mainly because apart from on pair of shoes that I hate, I have NO heels- I just steal my sister's. These are from Urban Outfitters, and they look perfect to wear with a girly dress or skirt for summer.

As well as that, I hope to go out at EVERY possibility with my friends, eat copious amounts of junk food, finish buying my new wardrobe, visit more junk shops, laugh more, cry more, do more and ignore my damned hayfever ;)
Have a good day, folks <3
